Calhoun Named Chief Technology Officer for SCCOE

SAN JOSE— Dr. Kelly J. Calhoun has been named chief technology officer for the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), effective September 1, 2009. Reporting to Santa Clara County superintendent of schools Dr. Charles Weis, Calhoun will be responsible for three existing SCCOE departments: Communication Services, Regional Technology Center and Education Technology Services.

“This is a newly created position that will combine all technology-related departments under Dr. Calhoun’s leadership, enabling tighter cross-functional alignment with SCCOE educational goals,” Weis said. “Her Branch will support the use of technology to help students successfully learn and compete, educators to manage data and budget information, and communication with our constituents. Dr. Calhoun will also apply her expertise to internal operations, enhancing SCCOE productivity through greater efficiencies and economies of scale.”

Calhoun’s professional focus is on the effective use of technology in education. With 19 years of related experience, she has assumed positions of increasing responsibility in the administrative management of school districts and public agencies. Most recently Calhoun served as director and certified chief technology officer of Educational Technology & Information Systems for Folsom Cordova Unified School District. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators, and president-elect of the California Education Technology Professional Association.

“My vision is to incorporate technology systems, services and strategies that will give SCCOE flexibility for future innovation,” Calhoun said. “Effective change management is key to the organization’s ongoing success.”

Calhoun earned her Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from the University of LaVerne, her M.A. in Education from San Diego State University (SDSU), and her B.A. in Telecommunications and Film from SDSU. She also holds a California Administrative Services Credential from National University and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential from SDSU.
