Calhoun Named Chief Technology Officer for SCCOE
SAN JOSE— Dr. Kelly J. Calhoun has been named chief technology officer
for the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), effective September 1,
2009. Reporting to Santa Clara County superintendent of schools Dr. Charles Weis,
Calhoun will be responsible for three existing SCCOE departments: Communication
Services, Regional Technology Center and Education Technology Services.
“This is a newly created position that will combine all technology-related
departments under Dr. Calhoun’s leadership, enabling tighter cross-functional
alignment with SCCOE educational goals,” Weis said. “Her Branch will support the
use of technology to help students successfully learn and compete, educators to
manage data and budget information, and communication with our constituents. Dr.
Calhoun will also apply her expertise to internal operations, enhancing SCCOE
productivity through greater efficiencies and economies of scale.”
Calhoun’s professional focus is on the effective use of technology in
education. With 19 years of related experience, she has assumed positions of
increasing responsibility in the administrative management of school districts
and public agencies. Most recently Calhoun served as director and certified
chief technology officer of Educational Technology & Information Systems for
Folsom Cordova Unified School District. She is a member of the Association of
California School Administrators, and president-elect of the California
Education Technology Professional Association.
“My vision is to incorporate technology systems, services and strategies that
will give SCCOE flexibility for future innovation,” Calhoun said. “Effective
change management is key to the organization’s ongoing success.”
Calhoun earned her Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from the University of
LaVerne, her M.A. in Education from San Diego State University (SDSU), and her
B.A. in Telecommunications and Film from SDSU. She also holds a California
Administrative Services Credential from National University and a California
Single Subject Teaching Credential from SDSU.
