Hello, everyone—
I am happy to report some good news as a follow-up to the Staff Briefing I
sent out on Monday.
In the briefing, I wrote that we do not plan to reinstate any teachers whom
we were forced to lay off last spring. The good news is, circumstances
have arisen that enabled us to create or maintain seven positions, which in turn
allowed us to retain staff.
- Two positions were created at our Sunol site as the result
of the Probation Department's new "Edge" program; and Title I funds have
allowed us to fund another career technical education position at that site.
- At Osborne, the projection of an enrollment decrease was
not realized, allowing us to retain a position.
- At Viewside, an agreement with the Mountain View/Los Altos
Union High School District has enabled us to maintain two teaching assignments
there.
- Finally, Title I monies have given us the opportunity to
fund a special-assignment teaching position for math and science.
This is great news for our staff, students and community. It's a big relief
to know that, in spite of the financial squeeze felt by all of public education
recently, the County Office of Education has emerged with our valuable staff
largely intact.
As always, thanks for reading.
