Multilingual Programs
The primary purpose of Multilingual Programs is to provide training and resources to teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals to support instruction and achievement for English language learners.
Services
As a part of this goal, Multilingual Programs offers two options for teachers to obtain California Teacher of English Learners (CTEL) certification to teach English learners. In addition, the unit offers the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) administration training annually.
Customized trainings are also available on various topics: English Language Development (ELD); Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies; Standard 19 Teaching English Learners requirement for new teachers; and SB 472 professional development for English learners.
The English Language Acquisition Consortium (ELAC), coordinated by the COE, gives school district representatives an opportunity to meet regularly and provide a support mechanism in the implementation of effective programs for English learners.
